AC Hotel in NuLu gets new start date, adds more rooms

he start date for a 152-room hotel AC Hotel in Nulu has been pushed back to early 2017 to better align its completion to the reopening of the Kentucky International Convention Center in summer 2018.

Ron Turnier, president and CFO of Creation Gardens Inc. and a member of the development team for the hotel, said Thursday that the project also was pushed back to better benefit from the start of a streetscape project in NuLu.

The $38.6 million AC Hotel NuLu is planned on a vacant lot at 725 E. Market St., near the corner of East Market and Shelby streets. Proposed amenities include a rooftop bar, parking garage garage and retail space.

AC Hotels was founded in Spain in 1998. It has about 100 locations, primarily in Europe. Louisville will become one of a handful of U.S. cities to host an AC Hotel, joining Chicago, Kansas City, Miami Beach, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.

Turnier and his wife, Mollie Turnier, have been working with Raleigh, N.C.-based Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. for more than two years on the project as part of the Louisville-based 725 Partners LLC. Concord Hospitality is the hotel manager for the development in partnership with Marriott International Inc.
