Concord Hospitality Gives Back 6,000 Volunteer Hours in A Single Day During Share Day 2016

Capping off a year in which it raised more than $130,000, Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company associates – from the bussers to the board room – are banding together today to provide food and shelter to those in need.

Since starting Share Day in 2009, Concord Hospitality has raised more than $600,000, distributed two million meals and refurbished dozens of homes. Those totals rise this year as 4,000 associates at 87 Concord properties across North America give 6,000 hours of service and deliver more than 168,000 meals to 2,000 needy families on a single day. Share Day 2016 is the culmination of efforts that began a year ago, primarily through grassroots activities such as bake sales, car washes and garage sales.

“Our associates want to give back to their local communities, but often lack the resources to do so entirely on their own,” said Debra Punke, Concord Hospitality senior vice president of human capital. “Together we can have a greater, more meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.”

“This isn’t just about one day out of the year,” Punke continued. “This is about celebrating a culture of giving, a cornerstone of how our company chooses to do business.”

The largest Share Day events will happen in seven markets:

 Feed the Children
Poverty affects nearly one in seven American children, making it difficult for them to get nutritious food that helps them grow healthy and strong. In partnership with Feed the Children, Concord associates in Dayton,Ohio; Englewood, N.J.; Houston, Texas; Raleigh, N.C.; and Tampa, Fla., will distribute more than 168,000 meals to 2,000 families in need.

 Habitat for Humanity
Concord associates in Toronto are teaming up with Habitat for Humanity Canada to build and refurbish homes. Around 1.5 million Canadian families are in need of safe, decent and affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity mobilizes volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promote homeownership, helping break the cycle of poverty.

 Rebuilding Together
In America, there are 5.2 million homeowners living in physically inadequate homes that threaten their wellbeing. Every year, Rebuilding Together completes around 10,000 rebuilding projects, helping stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods across the country. Concord Hospitality associates in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Raleigh, N.C., will partner with Rebuilding Together to restore homes.
