New, Lego-like ‘stacking’ for urban construction
AC Hotel NULU is set to open in spring 2018. With the end of the year nearing, many are curious about the unconventional, and seemingly delayed, construction on site.
Largely unknown to the general public until now, the construction of this hotel has been underway in Liverpool, PA for months. Out of a manufacturing facility, rooms have been produced as modular units and transported to the site. Here, they are ‘stacked’ like Legos to construct the hotel. Students in The School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State University recently welcomed Visiting Leader Mark Laport to the classroom, where he shared what he has learned in co-founding and serving as president and CEO of Concord Hospitality Enterprises since 1985. Mark spoke in Dr. A.J. Singh’s HB 382 – Real Estate Investment Management class, as well as Dr. Ron Cichy’s HB 451 – Emerging Leadership Journey and HB 489 – Hospitality Business Strategy classes. #5. Hotel companies among best millennial workplaces: Fortune has released its latest list of the 100 best workplaces for millennials, based on a survey of more than 88,000 members of that generation, and several hotel companies have made the cut.
The highest ranked hotel company on the list is Kimpton Hotels & Resorts, which came in at 17th place. The other hotel companies to make the list were Hyatt Hotels Corporation (47th), Hilton Worldwide Holdings (60th), Concord Hospitality Enterprises (84th), and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts (94th).

The 399-room Marriott at the University of Dayton will undergo a $21 million renovation in May. The hotel will remain open and operational during the nine-month project. The renovation of guest rooms, meeting spaces, lounge areas and a restaurant is slated for completion in early 2017.

Construction has begun on two linked hotels at the site of the former University Plaza Hotel and Conference Center near Ohio State University in Columbus.
Site preparation and demolition work began in June at 3110 Olentangy River Road to make way for a 240-room full-service Marriott Hotel and a 114-room Residence Inn being developed by Columbus-based Continental Real Estate Cos. and Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. of North Carolina.
The twin-brand property, a first for the Marriott chain, is expected to be ready late next year. The project’s cost is pegged at about $50 million.
