The construction of Hyatt’s first Place Hotel brand in Miami has begun. The 135-room hotel near Miami International Airport is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The $21 million Hyatt Place is the brainchild of Miami-based MIA LeJeune LLC, a joint venture led by Coconut Grove-based firm Mayan Properties, Concord Hospitality and Travelers Hotel Group.

The Akron Aeros must book 1,400 hotel room nights a season for visiting baseball teams.
After the University of Akron converted the former Quaker Square hotel to student housing this summer, team owner Ken Babby had to find another place to host the visiting players, coaches and umpires for the rest of the season.

Rather than going with the Akron Citicenter, the only remaining downtown Akron hotel, he chose hotels in the Fairlawn area.

“The Citicenter does not meet the standards of the Eastern League and visiting teams,” said Babby, who just finished his first season as the Aeros’ new owner.

Rockbridge Partners, a division of Rockbridge, today announced the acquisition of the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley, a 375-room, full service hotel located in Raleigh (Crabtree), NC. Jim Merkel, president and CEO of Rockbridge, made the announcement.

The full service, six story Marriott will undergo an extensive $23 million renovation that will dramatically change the overall guest experience. Highlights of the renovation include complete guestroom and guest bath upgrades, the addition of a 10,000sf ballroom, and reconfiguration of the existing lobby and restaurant space to install the new Marriott “Great Room” lobby concept. The sense of arrival and exterior will be modernized through design enhancements to the porte-cochere, re-orientation of the guest entryway, and activation of the outdoor space with a new patio terrace and pool.
